KAREN'S STORY - CALGARY POLICE SERVICE
SEXUAL ASSAULT TRAINING
Karen was honoured to be invited by the Calgary Police Service to share her lived experience as part of specialized training for investigators working on sexual assault files.
Through this interview, Karen offers a survivor's perspective on the impact of trauma, the importance of being heard and believed, and the lasting difference that compassionate, trauma-informed responses can make. Her story encourages professionals to look beyond the investigation itself and recognize the courage it takes for survivors to come forward.
By sharing her experience, Karen hopes to contribute to ongoing learning that strengthens victim-centred practices, builds trust, and supports more compassionate responses for those navigating the criminal justice system.
